About
Us
Ian moved from
Sydney to Brisbane for
work at the Queensland College of Art. After many years of teaching and
managing the Interior Design Department he left to begin a long held
passion to develop and build a collection of individual Cottages in the
Country. What better place than near one of his favourite beaches Byron
Bay. So the process unfolded. Julie with a teaching, pilot and real
estate background joined in the new venture. She is now venturing off
to study Naturopathy.
Byron Country Cottages
Talofa Lodge
"Talofa Lodge" takes its name from the
place name of Talofa which is a small district between Bangalow and
Byron Bay.
In 1908, the Talofa Railway siding was named from
an
expression used by Samoan Islanders meaning "Rejoicing and goodwill" or
"A pleasant country". Other interpretations of the word from other
Samoan visitors are "Hello and Welcome". South sea islanders were
instrumental in introducing the cultivation of bananas in this region
In 1989, we purchased the original "Cedar
Cottage"
situated on a very barren hill of 5 acres or 2 hectares. In 1993, we
extended the Lodge by building our current residence, and a year later
moved to the area, having gained another 71/2 acres or 3 hectares.
Further development was carried out in 1996 when
"Rose
Gum", "Tea Tree" and "Hillside Cottages" were completed before
Christmas that year. "Banksia" was operational by Christmas 1997.
Finally in September 2000, "Waratah Cottage" was
constructed, making a total complement of six cottages.
All our cottages have been designed by Ian to
have
their own private areas and different outlook over the rolling hills.
Each cottage is individual in design, size and decor, so if you would
like to know more, we have photographs at the office, or we are happy
to take you for a guided tour.
